FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS + INFO
Lip blush tattoo is used to enhance the natural lip shape symmetry and color. A customized pigment is applied to add definitition to your lips and conceal imperfections based on your skin tone and personal preference.
Your lips will look like lipstick on the first day and soften as they heal to become a very subtle, natural looking lip tint. Apply a little gloss or balm and your lips will look beautiful 24/7.
If you are prone to cold sores, lip tattooing can cause outbreaks. We ask that our clients take their prescribed anti-viral medication a few days prior to their appointment and after the procedure to prevent any cold sores.
If you have an outbreak, or any other type of scratch/acne we ask that you reschedule your appointment.
Permanent makeup ink is not the same as body art ink, and by design it does not last as long as bod art ink. Permanent makeup does fade and is expected to last two to five years before requiring a touchup.
Maintenance touchups are suggested for the best results.
Everybody has a different level of pain tolerance but most clients are completely comfortable and relaxed during the appointment. A highly effective numbing solution is applied before and during the treatment to keep you feeling as comfortable as possible.
What to expect?
There may be moderate swelling, redness and bruising for the first three days.
If you experience swelling, use an ice pack for no more than 15 minutes at a time to reduce swelling.
-During the initial healing period, there should be minimal scabbing or flaking of the skin. If there is some scabbing or flaking, do not pick and allow the scab or dry skin to come off on its own. This usually takes place within the first three days.
-Expect the color to lighten up to 50-70% once the healing process is complete.
-Color may appear uneven at different stages of healing. Be patient. This is a process that does not yield immediate results.
-It can take 2 sessions prior to achieving the level of saturation that you may desire.
Procedure time may vary. I typically block out 3.5 hours for this procedure.

If you are prone to cold sores, lip tattooing CAN and WILL cause outbreaks which can results in loss of pigment. We ask that our clients take their prescribed anti-viral medication starting 48 hours prior to their appointment and after the procedure to prevent outbreak. You can stil have lip blushing done! We just want to ensure you get the best results possible. Consult with your doctor for any additional questions.
If you have an outbreak, or any other type of scratch/ acne we ask that you reschedule your appointment a soon as possible. If you show up with anytype of outbreak your appointment is considered cancelled and you forfeit your deposit.
Lip filler must be healed at least three weeks pre lip blushing. Lip blush must be healed at least 4 weeks post procedure before any injections.
Typically, I prefer to work on your natural lips before any filler is added. Filler can alter the shape of your natural lips, the tattoo lasts 2-3 years before needing a touchup... therefore, if your filler starts to fade the tattoo could potentially be misshaped, unbalanced, etc.
I CAN and WILL work on filled lips but cannot work on lips that are overfilled.
Your lips cannot be dry for the appointment. If they are dry we will need to reschedule and you will forfeit your deposit. You may exfoliate 3 days before your appointment to remove any dry skin. You can use a lip scrub or creating your own using a little honey and brown sugar. For the week leading up to the appointment, you must moisturize your lips as much as possible. (I recommend using Aquaphor)
Cold sores are a risk of lip blush tattoo. If you have had a cold sore in the past - we STRONGLY advise you to go to your doctor for an antiviral medication PRIOR to any lip procedure, to help avoid an outbreak.
Even if you have not had a cold sore before - I recommend all of my clients take L-Lysine 2 weeks before the appointment and 2 weeks following the appointment to reduce the risk of a potential outbreak.
AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT:
Lips will feel swollen and very dry after your treatment. Apply Aquaphor on lips several times a day. This should be done for at least 14 days post treatment. Do not allow the lips to become dry. This may interfere with the healed result. During the day, if lips feel dry, apply a liberal amount of Aquaphor. Just tap on the skin - DO NOT rub in. Always use a clean Q-tip, not fingers to apply. This will reduce the risk of infection.
Wash morning and night with the provided Ink Soap: After Soap
Apply Aquaphor every 30-45 minutes
After lips are no longer tender to the touch they may become flakey. This is normal and is expected. Please do not pick or scratch at them. This may significantly reduce the amount of pigment absorption. Avoid the sun and tanning beds pre + post procedure. Be sure to ALWAYS use a sun protectant/ block once lips are healed. DO NOT use any glycolic, hydroxy or fruit acid products on the lips. Avoid direct water pressure, pools, and other bodies of water until healed. You can resume wearing lipstick once lips are healed. Redness, swelling, tenderness, dryness are all common post treatment side effects and will dissipate in a short period of time. Avoid oily, salty, acidic foods and alcohol while healing.
Lips are a muscle and may require a touch-up session to complete the process of this procedure. Lips are unpredictable. Some clients will yield a very strong healed lip color. Others will heal with a slight color intake. This wll vary on an individual basis. Clients with sundamage, scar tissue (from injury or fever blisters) and clients with implants may not have strong results. Hyperpigmentation can happen on any lip client without warning. If you have a history of fever blisters, cold sores, or chicken pox, we advise you to go to the doctor for an anti-viral medication prior to any lip procedure to help avoid an outbreak. Follow all before and after instructions after all lip treatments. Lip retouch must be scheduled 6-12 weeks apart from initial session to help with color retention.
Lips heal in three stages: too dark - too light - just right. This takes one month to happen. Please avoid any friction to the lip area.
